The Reconnection Review

The Reconnection

I just finished reading The Reconnection. I debated whether to write a review and, finally, decided that I would go ahead and share my thoughts.
I am an osteopath who has been in practice for 17 years. Each of our paths is different and I would never presume to question anyone else's work. What the author describes is, I assume, his experience.
My own journey has brought me to a place where much of what is described in this book is quite familiar. I experience it daily.
I found the first half of the book ( up to page 83 in the 2001 version that I have) unhelpful. This is the autobiographical aspect in which the author describes his own development. He tells us repeatedly that he has a special gift, that he was sought out [given this gift] because he is "a master," " we [entities who speak to him] have come because of your reputation." (p.70)
The author is very, very special. He spends almost one-third of the book reminding us of this. He is not just special; he is very special.
So much for the first part of the book, the personality.
However, the second half of the book is entirely different.
It contains many nuggets which, based on my own limited but practical experience I can say ring true.
He provides many guidelines and pearls ( please forgive the unintended pun) which will prove invaluable for anyone seriously interested in entering this path regardless of whatever level that may be.
His advice on dealing with clients, length of time, follow-up visits, mind states of the practitioner, and beliefs associated with such work are spot on.
It took me many years to learn much of this on my own.
A few other personal comments:
You need not attend any class, seminar or read any book to do this work. It is yours whether you consciously know this or not. Silently ask to be taught when you interact with anyone and, I promise, you will.
Your hands are already activated. You need not seek out anyone to activate them.
There is no right or wrong way. There is just what presents.
Don't try to accomplish anything. Let It do the work.
Your trying only gets in the way.
There is no need for any entities or spirits but, if you wish to cultivate such things, you will experience that, too. However, my own experience is that this is totally unnecessary.
The author expresses his own beliefs. You need not adopt them in order to successfully experience what is described in this volume.
Trust yourself, trust the moment.
Know that All is well.

Why are prominent doctors and medical researchers all over the world interested in the extraordinary healings reported by the patients of Dr. Eric Pearl? What does it mean when these patients report the sudden disappearance of afflictions such as cancer, AIDS, and cerebral palsy? Catholics and the New Age: How Good People Are Being Drawn Into Jungian Psychology, the Enneagram, and the Age of Aquarius Review

Catholics and the New Age: How Good People Are Being Drawn Into Jungian Psychology, the Enneagram, and the Age of Aquarius
Average Reviews:

Pacwa, a Jesuit priest, gives a balanced and systematic treatment of the New Age movement. There are no emotional tirades and scathing attacks. This book is rigorous and scholarly (includes endnotes, a glossary and bibliography) yet very readable. He gives the history and logical arguments against these practices. This book is not just a good read. It's also good to give away to those who need it and good as a reference as well.
Pacwa exposes the roots of New Age infiltration into the Catholic Church. It's a controversial topic but he makes it pretty clear that using something like the Enneagram (a typology purporting that there are 9 types of characters) just doesn't square with being Catholic. Seen in the light of Tradition and Scripture, which Fr. Pacwa makes reference to, this and all New Age practices are dubious at best and diabolical at worst.

I have read several books on the Law of Attraction and besides the Hicks' books, The Secret will always be on of my favorites. In this one, we get daily teachings. What I like best about it is that it really reminds you--everyday!--to focus on your desires. I think this is great. If you like the Secret, chances are you will like this one as well. I also liked You Don't Need a System: A Straightforward Guide to Using the Law of Attraction.

Valentino Speaks: The Wisdom of Rudolph Valentino; Cues and Views from the Other Side Review

Valentino Speaks: The Wisdom of Rudolph Valentino; Cues and Views from the Other Side

Of all the things we knew Rudolph Valentino to be, spiritual teacher was not one of them. Nonetheless, he apparently has a great deal of value to offer in this role. Of course, being, well, dead, how do we get hold of what he's got to tell us? Enter Wayne Hatford, gifted channel and similarly gifted writer, who breathes life into Valentino's offerings to us.
This is a fascinating read, and you can almost feel Rudy looking over your shoulder thanks to Hatford's efforts.
Valentino Speaks was obviously a labor of love, and one that enriches us all.
Bravo, I say, Bravo.

The Camino : A Journey of the Spirit Review

The Camino : A Journey of the Spirit
Average Reviews:

One of my friends at work gave me Shirley's new book, and I was thrilled. In the traditional Christian world, Shirley MacLaine is one of those people who would be on the "LIST"---forbidden to any God-fearing, Bible believing Christian. I used to carry Shirley's books around in brown paper bags and pull them halfway out and read them when nobody was looking. Our preacher would be talking about how "Shirley MacLaine has lost her mind," and I'd be reading her books under the pews and thinking, "She makes more sense than the preacher." In Christian college, I got called on the carpet when somebody decided to investigate one of my brown bags to see if I was sneaking alcohol. GOD FORBID, he found something WORSE--one of Shirley MacLaine's novels, which would surely send me to hell faster than booze. Needless to say, my days in the traditional Christian experience were short-lived.
I think Shirley MacLaine is amazing! I think she's one of the bravest women alive. She has never been afraid to share her spiritual journeys for the benefit of those who can "receive" them and at the cost of personal ridicule from those who cannot.
People are criticizing this book and saying it was not about the Camino but about her own inner journey. I would have been disappointed had it not been. I don't care if Shirley walks the Camino, the Appalachian Trail, or walks to the corner drugstore. I want to know what happened to her spiritually along the way.
This is a wonderful book for all fellow "Pilgrims" and "Sojourners in a Strange Land."

From Elsewhere: Being E.T. in America Review

From Elsewhere: Being E.T. in America
Average Reviews:

Synchronicity brought "From Elsewhere" my way and I am eternally grateful. It is very difficult going through life as a lonely observer with a growing stack of unanswerable questions. This book addressed those gnawing issues for me. The answer to all of them: I am a wanderer. I agree with the Knoxville reviewer about the book probably being unpalatable to most non-wanderers/walk-ins. That is simply because few people are open-minded enough to ask the questions that Dr. Mandelker poses. These questions shake the very foundations of society's cherished beliefs about life. It is a tribute to Mandelker's courage that he dares ask them.
As a wanderer, I particularly appreciated the author's personal story in the appendix. That autobiography plus the quiz that the other reviewer mentioned, convinced me of my origins. I really wasn't surprised that I'm from Elsewhere. That was probably the most stunning discovery of all. I hope sincere, open-minded people will delve into this book. It deserves the attention of all devoted seekers of truth. Dr. Mandelker's sincerity, courage, and solid, though unconventional reasoning make this work a stand-out. Thank you, Scott.
