(More customer reviews)This is easily the finest work to-date concerning panentheism, its philosophical roots (and amazing pedigree, though often missed), and its appropriation into numerous Christian theologies over the past hundred years. I have no doubt that Cooper's work will become a staple volume on the bookshelves of specialists in Theology Proper and that his efforts will be drawn upon for years to come. This is the best addition to my own theological library in a long time. Though Cooper is a theological classicalist (and Reformed), he is entirely fair and thorough with the many works and ideas of the panentheists. Panentheists themselves will find the notable architects and differing versions of the view fairly and thoroughly presented. Toward the end, Cooper offers some concluding, though relatively brief, thoughts concerning why he rejects the panentheistic construct. His diligent work and perspicacious style are to be highly commended. My only regret is that the work was not released while I was engaged in doctoral work concerning 'open theism' and its quasi panentheistic substrata!

Letters to Alice on First Reading Jane Austen (Weldon, Fay) Review

I treasure this book. Reading Fay Weldon is like having a very best friend who's read everything you love, has brilliant insights into literature and life, and is absolutely hilarious. She meets that need the passionate reader feels at the end of a wonderful book, to discuss it with someone whose opinion is worth having.
"Letters to Alice: On First Reading Jane Austen" takes the form of letters from a writer to her niece, Alice, who's complained of being forced (!) to read Jane Austen. (I remember how utterly lame I thought PRIDE AND PREJUDICE was when I was 13--nobody had explained to us that it was supposed to be funny! Thank God I tried it again years later.) In the course of trying to make Austen (and all literature) accessible to her niece, the writer takes her on a marvelous journey into the city of the imagination.
I keep starting sentences and then deleting them, because writing accurately about this book is tricky. Its genius is perhaps that the book illuminates the relationship of writer to reader without being dry or academic--it is, in fact, thoroughly entertaining.
If you LOVE books, if you spent half your childhood curled up in some corner reading, if you try to foist books onto your friends--you will recognize the city into which Weldon leads you, and you will feel welcomed and at home.
All in all, a fab read. Treat yourself!

As I was reading, I was turning the corners of pages with great thoughts or quotes. It quickly became ridiculous, as I was turning down the corner of almost every page. This book makes a great gift.

This book claims to have a 'collection of over 3000 quotes.' Seeing its daunting size, there is little doubt to the accuracy of that statement. While mostly about love, the quotes vary in genre from 'Wrinkles' to 'Safe Sex,' from 'Gossip' to 'Lingerie.' The quotes have a vast range of emotion behind them... humor, spite, truth, and independence included. Examples include: "I am tired of all this nonsense of beauty being only skin deep. That's deep enough. What do you want- an adorable pancreas?" (Jean Kerr, page 32) "At the touch of love everyone becomes a poet." (Plato, page 248) "Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth/For thy love is better than wine." (Song of Songs, page (212) There are a variety of authors, as the book says, though it tends mostly to have many lines from the 1800's-early 1900s. For anyone who loves romance (or lack thereof) and quotes, this book is definately a good buy.

Romantic Shakespeare: Quotes from the Bard on Love and Lovers Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this book mainly because my girlfriend loves it when I quote Shakespeare and I was running a bit dry on material. It has tons of quotes, even from some of his stories (read: not plays) and some of the plays you wouldn't necessarily percieve as being romantic i.e. Othello, King Henry et all.) It also has all of his sonnets. Great buy, but not for those uninterested in love (it's an inspiration thing)
