This book isolates the various sayings of Jesus and puts them into their context, but superimposes onto them quotes from other famous (and infamous) people. As I read it I was struck by what a lightning rod Jesus is for criticism, denial and praise. It is facinating to see the range of topics Jesus addressed and how many of his quotes you don't hear repeated much. This is a thought-provoking read for anyone of any faith!

What did Christ say about war, peace and humanity? What did he say about politics and taxes? About life and death? Liberty and justice? What did he say about lust and greed? Family, marriage and divorce? The Christ Literalist is an attempt to consolidate His Word, i.e., at least, the words he actually spoke, into one volume. What is left, are the words of Christ for what they are, unadulterated, placed in their historical setting and contrasted by secular quotes from other notable historical and modern celebrities, revolutionaries, radical thinkers and misfits:"Christianity will go. It will vanish and shrink. I needn't argue about that; I'm right and I will be proved right. We're more popular than Jesus now.'John Lennon, of The BeatlesBritish Musician, 1940–1980"In the secret of my knowledge there is no God but me."The Satanic RitualsWritten By Anton LaVey, (1972)"the time has come.
